Graphic design
This is the graphical section, dedicated to the subject that kept me busy for quite some time when I was little. If you are part of those who like to work on a nice desktop or put some nice sketches and drawings on their works, I hope you'll enjoy these few links.
General art
Let's start with a few general and professional websites where you'll be able to admire some beautiful works:
DeviantArt
For me, it THE website, as soon as you're looking for something that is related to graphic design and art. Everything is there, best and worst, but the most popular deviations look usually rather good. Some are pretty incredible as some professionnals also display their work here. In short, whatever you're looking for, this is the place to start.
For those who aren't looking for something in particular right now, here is a list of some deviants I like. (display list)

CrystalXP
Though it is mostly specialized in Windows customization, the news will make you discover many animations and short movies, mostly realized by art schools. Moreover, the numerous galleries are full of tux, mascots, wallpapers, etc. Finally, you'll find tutorials regarding various graphic design software on the forum, where you'll also be able to admire the members' work. As for associations, you can also contact the team of CrXP for logos requests (they'll be then transmitted to the members).
Hebus
An active community where some may find what they are looking for.
W. Siudmak
All French SF readers know the genius who painted many of the most beautiful (to my mind) front covers of the Pocket
edition. Here is his website, where you'll be able to see his wonderful work.
Ted Nasmith
Let's keep going with some fantasy painters: here comes Ted Nasmith who notably illustrated many scenes from Tolkien's and G.R.R. Martin's works.
John Howe
And here is another artist who, for me, realized some of the best paintings related to Tolkien's universe.
Daniel Reeve
He also worked a lot on fantasy, but I rather like his work on calligraphy.
C.M. Laurent
Some more on calligraphy with nice mandalas and calligrammes...
Customization
For those who would like the destops to look a bit more attractive – it's always more enjoyable when you turn on your computer – Deviantart and CrXP still two references in this field, but here are some other links:
Desktopography
Here is a interesting website if you're searching for nice wallpapers... anti-ecologists may want to look somewhere else ^^
Gnome-Look & KDE-Look
Let us be clear, I'm a linux user before everything else and when I speak about customization, I adress more specifically those who chose the free path :P. To those people, Gnome- and KDE-Look will uncover a large choice of icons and themes, among which you might find the one you were looking for without even knowing it.
PNG Factory
And here comes the biggest icon factory I know: THE PNG Factory, where you can find single icons for specific needs or collections on a given theme.
Web design
Eventually, if you're looking for tutorials to make your own website the best you can, here you go:
W3schools
You'll need this one to begin with (x)HTML and CSS.
Entheos
Here is a tutorial to begin slowly. More complex tutorials are available on the site.
WebDesign-Tutorials
A nice community where you will find lots of data on various parts of web design.
WebDesignerDev
More tutorials, mainly about graphic design or advanced programming.
